Guide: Florence - perfect cultural long weekend

Florence has long been perceived as one of Europe's most enchanting cities, it's easy to see why! It shows the biggest masterpieces of the reinassance, made by artists like Michelangelo and Raffaello.

Florence is also a  beautiful and  romantic city;  you can choose it for going shopping by the biggest names of the Italian fashion world and you can choose it for savouring the best Italian food; infact Tuscan recepies are the simplest yet between the most tasty and enjoyable in the country.
What's more, if you feel like exploring further, you can discover the Chianti countryside in less than half an hour drive or ride.

Where to stay:

A fantastic option and a different kind of vacation can be to rent an apartment for your stay and discover an entirely new way to travel.

Spend the day exploring museums and shops in Florence, tour around Siena and all the Chianti area, by bike, horse riding or baloon flyiing, or just take cooking classes, it is really up to you.
At the end of the day you will make your way "home" to your very own short- term rental and fully enjoy a stress-free vacation experience...

Should it be that you desire is an intimate meal cooked "a casa tua", go to the open air market like the fiorentine people and pick up your favourite food.

Renting a villa or an apartment means you can enjoy bigger spaces, more amenities, and privacy than you would in most hotels.

You can experience living in an authentic Fiorentine neighborhood!

The best website to rent an apartment or Villa in Florence is www.apartmentsflorence.it

The management team is outstanding. They are friendly, available, reliable, professional, flexible and prompt in responding to inquiries or problems.

Where to eat:

GELATO - Badiani in Vialle dei Mille... the best gelato in Florence!!  Their dark chocolate is called fondente, and it’s worth returning to Florence for!

Restaurants -

Osteria delle Tre Panche – lunch and dinner, right on Pacinotti street, just over the Ponte al Pino bridge.  Salvieri is a genial host and his wife a great cook.  Reserve, especially for dinner, as he is often crowded (and its known as the smallest restaurant in Florence).  Try ravioli stuffed with ricotta with porcini sauce and the cheesecake (a secret recipe) – and almost anything.  He has cooked for Nieman Marcus in the US.  Closed Sunday.

Osteria I Riffaioli – lunch only – traditional, very Italian, prize winner.  Will do dinners only if you bring in a party and pre plan it with them.  Try pasta with carcioffi.  It is at via del Ponte alle Riffe 4r – take the middle street of the three that lead up from the market area at Le Cure, and it is on the left when you see the bridge crossing the stream.

Osteria Tornabuoni -   From the front hall, a corridor lined by two spectacular "bottleshelves" leads to the main hall the ancient covered wagon-court – a cosy, welcoming lounge dominated by a wide skylight. The tables are set out along the walls with elegant shared "banquettes" and there is a central "island" of round tables. The setting style is intentionally simple but elegant, in its shades of écru linen and white china in soft contrast with the grey stone floor. Here and there some original pieces of furniture add to the Osteria's homely atmosphere. the Chef, born in Puglia, considers Florence his adoptive city and has developed since young a real passion for cooking. After working all over Italy, from South to North, he finally settled in Florence. 5, Via de' Corsi (Via Tornabuoni side-street).

Alle Murate  “Alle Murate” defining Excellence means combining meticulous, original culinary scholarship with the custody and valorization of the artistic and historical legacy of the building that houses  in Florence. The true spirit of the restaurant is Giovanna Iorio, her cuisine inspired by the most traditional flavors. Considering her familiar approach to the art of cooking, she is proud to define herself as a Cook, refusing the title of chef.

at Il Salviatino HotelGrappolo, which in Italian means grape bunch, is precisely that, a series of fresh and tasty experiences that stem from the same root.
Developed by acclaimed Florentine chef  Saverio Sbaragli, Grappolo is a unique vision of gastronomy in hospitality. Based on the roots of Tuscan cuisine and the authenticity of ingredients, you will be able to enjoy multiple interpretations of the same menu as well as the possibility to dine virtually anywhere on property at any time.
Tuscan classics, as taught by and researched with local grandmothers can be tasted on "La Terrazza", with magnificent views of the Dome, whilst in the secluded greenhouse area, "Le Serre" Chef Saverio re-interpretates these same dishes in a modern key, enriched by a series of international experiences in some of Europe's finest restaurants.

Lungarno 23 - modern style with fantastic atmosphere.... here you can eat a delicius hamburgers - made with the Chianina meat ( Chianina it's special Tuscan white cow with super tender and flavoured meat).

*** tomorrow I will post where and what to shop for in Florence.
